Peter M. Leschak has been a firefighter for thirty-seven years, in both municipal and wild-land arenas, and has worked a thousand incidents in the United States and Canada. He is the author of ten books, including Letters from Side Lake and Hellroaring, and won a Minnesota Book Award for The Bear Guardian. Since the Great Chicago Fire occurred at the same time, Peshtigo was overshadowed and almost forgotten.
